The Family Advisor Service for Children

We offer friendly, confidential and independent information and advice & support to parents and carers of children with learning disabilities/or difficulties, enabling them to access a wider range of services.

We can assist with things like:

We visit families who need help with a particular issue, or those who just want to talk about their situation. We hold information days, coffee mornings, social gatherings and we also throw parties at various points throughout the year, which all of the family can attend. There is usually separate entertainment for the younger children.

Professionals can refer families to the Family Advisor Service, however families can also refer themselves if they wish.

Adult Family Advisor Service

This service is available to all people with learning disabilities and their families who live in Greenwich or are the responsibility of Greenwich - you do not have to be a Greenwich Mencap member to access the service.

We offer independent support, information and advice on disability benefits, day and residential services, respite care, transition, wills and trusts, housing, health, holidays, bereavement, social and leisure opportunities, employment.

We can support you at meetings, help you access services, and also signpost you to other agencies. We have extensive links with other local and national groups. We also organise regular workshops and information days so that parents, carers and service users can meet with social services etc. and we attend meetings with social services to represent people with a learning disability and campaign on their behalf.

Greenwich Mencap regularly holds social events where parents can meet each other informally and maintain their support networks.
